Implement Competitive Challenges
There are some parts of Storium that use fights between two player characters as a way to push the story a bit. However, it is clear that the narrator has to create some sort of system in order to implement this system.
So I suggest this: what if we assign cards "points"? Let's say that each strength and weakness card has 2 points. Weakness subtracts two points from the character who played the card, while strength does the opposite. The points of goal, subplot and asset cards are left up to the narrator. Whoever puts up the most points wins the challenge.
Now, here's an example. Let's say that Character A has a fist fight with Character B. A has the asset of "knife", which has 2 points. B has no assets, but plays out his strength card of "strong", which also has 2 points. A retaliates with the asset of "pointy shoe" which has 1 point. B has no more to play, and A wins.
We have a few things to address, first.
What if both are at a stalemate?
Then it will unfold as an uncertain, just like in a normal challenge. This will definitely fill up the limit on fighting each other and take away cards. What is your solution to circumvent this?
My solution involves separating the competitive challenge card limit from the cooperative challenge card limit, then leaving it up to the narrator to decide if it consumes the entire asset card or not.
- What will it look like and what will these competitive challenges be called? Glad you asked that. To Paint! (refer to the file attached) Very professional, you say.
That was the best I can do.
