Consequences: Negative Assets
While positive assets serve as strengths that may be received through the story, there should also be an option to reflect injuries and the results of bad decisions that may come back to haunt the character.
These "consequences", as the Fate system would call them, could be given just the same way as normal assets, and also offered for pick-up.
One example for a situation where this would be useful:
Character A, whose side story is to "get all the gold!", enters a trapped vault. If the player just plays the neutral side story card, they can advance the story, but it becomes rather inconsequential. However, the narrator could have potentially placed an "injured by traps" consequence on the table, allowing for the player to pick it up and use it, potentially, later, when his character's greed-induced injury hampers his ability to escape the vault.

Sounds like a good idea. As there are also scenarios where it might be beneficial to have a neutral asset card, perhaps the narrator can 'tag' an asset as strong/weak, but also just leave it as neutral. (Something else that jumps to mind is players being able to tag their own cards, perhaps another setting the narrator can tweak, but this seems excessive and could be handled equally well by a conversation between player/narrator.)

Currently asset cards are neutral, meaning they provide an 'uncertain' outcome to challenges. Why can't you just create negative asset cards now? Call the card 'injury' or whatnot and give them to players. They can play them as normal for an uncertain outcome.
Maybe the real question here is can we have assets with 'strong' and 'weak' tags attached? Correct me if I missed something vital here. Thanks. -

I like the idea of weighed Assets. However, they should be renamed, so positive Assets could remain Assets, or could be called Benefits, Bonuses, or something similar. And negative Assets could be called either Hindrances, IOU's, Penalties, or some such like. Since frequent use of Assets is a hindrance towards a character's development, they shouldn't affect the flow of the game too much, since player who play them often, will stall their character and won't refresh their cards as often. However, these cards can make the flow of the game go more smoothly. And are very useful from a narrative point of view.
