Allow Narrators To Play In Their Own Game
Similar to D&D games where the Game Master also has a player in the campaign, I would like it if a narrator was also allowed to make a player to play in the game. This would allow more functionality for many different playstyles -- some people want a large campaign where there is a secretive GM holding all the cards, and others would like to use this awesome set-up for private, one-on-one storylines (like me!).
This is a part of the initial Gamma launch. Eager to see how this gets used!

I would love this option. I love making games, but I want to play in them, darn it. Short of handing all the game info to someone else so *they* can create it and then making puppy-eyes at them, I'm out of luck.

I too love this idea. They marked a few similar ideas as "completed" based solely on allowing us to create as many NPCs as we want as character cards.
I don't want to do that though. In several games, there is at least one character I'd like to join the cast as more of a joint-story-telling venture.
I'd like, to have not only the ability to play in my own games with a few characters completely filled out as the "cast" on the side bar (and post under them), but to also have the ability to play multiple characters in the same game as a permanent member of the "cast" list with all the weakness and strength cards, etc. plus description and picture.
I really don't have to play log in and out merry-go-round just to do this.

I love the idea of creating a cast of characters who have their own cards and profiles. This would really add a great dynamic and would help keep track of important NPCs.

While the option might be prone to self-aggrandizing game play for inexperienced GM-types, one of the best things about Storium is that it's so versatile and there's no 'wrong' way to play. This option would be immensely USEFUL to me for my playstyle and these comments/votes prove I'm not the only one! I personally use it to write co-op stories with friends and I would love, love, love the ability to create my own character(s) with their own cards and info so I can feel like part of the story instead of someone who is just overseeing it.

I can see how this might be appealing but it is also prone to self-aggrandizing game play. The Narrator can already simulate something to this effect by making a challenge easier through the "efforts" an NPC that is assumed to be present. These efforts don't need to be represented by card play, but rather as written continuations to the scene.
I think the only use of this idea is in Beta where continuing to a scene negates the Narrator ability to edit their scene. Otherwise, it's a fairly useless feature if you think about it carefully.

Agreeing with this- I would LOVE the ability to have a character (or, better, multiple characters!) in the game that I'm narrating!

The option to share narration and play multiple characters in a story would be awesome.

I'm looking at using Storium as the medium for a long-form, casual social game with my diaspora of friends. I'm more than happy to be the narrator and take on the extra burden to enable this, but it's sad that I can't play a character in the game with my friends. I'm treating storium like a minecraft server for writers instead of builders.

I would also appreciate this. I know we can play npc's and create person cards for them, but it's just not really the same. That's one little card with a tiny window of information. It would be nice to be able to create a full "cast" member in our own games.
This also has to do with a group of fantasy writer "bits" I'm trying to create where my narrator role only functions to give us a framework to play in and everyone has equal pull. Likewise, as with Jamie, it would help out a great deal when running games with my kid (he's homeschooled and we're using this for creative writing).

I'd like to use a game as a way for my child to learn creative writing, characterization, etc. and this ability gives a way to model emotional depth as well as limiting the parameters of the sandbox.
It's also handy for beginning narrators/players who are learning the system. I'd like to set up a test game as a narrator and see what is available from the player perspective without jumping into someone else's game.

I would love to have it when i am talking as a character in my stories that it looks like other players posts.
