  1. When creating a game add a player cap so that potential players know how many players you are looking for

When reviewing games that are looking for players it would be great to know how many players the narrator is looking for. Some narrators take several players and some prefer only a few players. Personally I like to play more in games with less players so it would be nice to know which ones to avoid.

This player cap should be changeable by the narrator at any point if they want to add someone in.

  2. Let Player Start with Different Subplots

I've seen a post saying that players should be allowed to select different combinations of Strengths and Weaknesses at character creation in order to start with more nuanced characters.

I think the same should apply to subplot cards.

The purpose of the subplot is to serve as the character’s main goal or driving force for that portion of the story. Having multiple subplots might dilute that. Once a subplot is finished the player is able to either continue with it or define a new one.

  3. Narrators shouldn't be able to remove all traces that a story happened

I was in a story and it has apparently been canceled. I'm fine with this, but the fact that the page for the story no longer exists is kind of demoralizing. I think that even if narrators have the power to end a story, they should not have the power to erase it completely.

  4. Start reading a story at the beginning of the story

When I look at others' stories it shows me the most recent scene first. Starting at the beginning (or a way to jump to chapter one) would work better.

You are able to jump to the first scene in any game by hitting the arrow button at the top of the page. Storium will also remember your place in a story when you are logged on and automatically bring you back to that page if you click on a game title. Thanks!

  5. Add the manage button to the story page for narrators

As a narrator I have to go back to the main storium.com page to find the wrench icon to make / see elements of my story, but I should be able to see this icon on the actual story page itself - unless I'm missing it and it's somewhere else on the story page?

  6. Allow various levels of visibilty of a story in progress

Various versions of this exist, but I would like to see it all together. I think a narrator should be able to allow the on-going story to be either
    - Not visible to people outside of the game
    - Visible to people who have an invite to watch
    - Visible to people who are applying to join an existing game
    - NOT visible to people who are applying to join an existing game
    - Publicly visible for people to watch

As they see fit, and it should be changeable as the narrator desires.

  7. Let players leave a game

People might want to leave/abandon a game for whatever reason, so I think there should be a feature to let you do that.

Perhaps it could also let you give a reason to the narrator, but at least this way players wouldn't be inactive when really they want to leave the game.

  8. See how many cards a character has in a scene

As a narrator it would be really useful not just to know how many cards are left available in a scene but also which players have cards left to play in a scene.

The Activity Summary at the bottom of the gamepage lists the number of cards every player has played into challenges and how many are remaining. Thanks!

  9. Allow prospective players to respond to requested character revisions

When a Narrator requests changes to a new character, the Player has no way of discussing the changes with the Narrator. All they can do is revise the character and resubmit.

Also, the notification for the resubmitted character ("Characters were submitted for your approval in Game Name") could be more specific ("@Player submitted a revised character to Game Name") to prevent the Narrator from overlooking a revised character.

  10. Post a sample game, or sample ideas in the help

The first time you try to play, it's difficult to figure out what to do. The help does specify individual things you can do, but it's hard to know, generally, how a game would go. A very simplified first game, or game=play examples would help.

(OTOH, having things not listed out might be better for the beta, because sometimes it's fun to make tools and see how other people find new ways to use them)

  11. Twitter, Facebook integration

I assume this must be coming when the game goes public, but worth a mention anyway: add Twitter and Facebook integration so that the narrator can opt to have each new turn in his game, or the players can opt to have each new move they make, posted to a Twitter and/or Facebook account of their choosing.

Likewise, make it so that narrators can post invitations to make players for their new campaign to their Twitter or Facebook feeds.

  12. Avoid facebook

Please do not allow Storium to be purchased by Facebook. They are fundamentally untrustworthy and I shudder to think of what they would do to the interface.

  13. Accept payapl

So as a person who won't get a credit card, I find myself limited by your inability to take paypal. I would love to buy an account and run games on here and bring my friends, but alas, I can't and this is extremely frustrating. Mostly places online now will take paypal as a secure payment.

  14. Temporarily save a character during the application process.

For those of us, who are still getting to grips with the rules, it would be a good option to be able to temporarily save an character whilst creating it, thus enabling the applicant to do some research, either into the rules or into the setting. It takes me at least a day to go from a nugget of an idea to a fully fledged character and I noticed that once I applied for a story, I wasn't able to edit my character.
Maybe a function that allows a player to re-edit a character in play (after approval from the…

  15. iPad play issues

Maybe check gameplay on iPad/Safari. I know it's not currently optimized, but when I click on a box that is supposed to pop up to fill in more information (like putting in a character bio) it sort of ghosts it out and I have to click around to try and locate it or redo the action.

Let me know if you need a screenshot and I'll try to capture one. It doesn't keep me from playing, but it might be discouraging to others. Just a heads up. Thanks for all your hard work!

  16. Real Time Indication of someone else posting/commenting

Maybe posts should be more like a pop up window that has real-time indications of moves and comments from other players, like a chat system. It might be possible to even be able to have a real-time comment bar/section in the pop-up. A bit of a stretch idea, but is really good for players with limited time to post, only to find someone else has posted.

There is now a notification bar at the bottom of the screen if another player is viewing the game or writing a move. Any new content will also give a notification to players on the page.

  17. Allow narrators to put cards for pickup into the scene after it begins

As I understand it, the narrator must currently designate all potential cards for pick-up at the beginning of a scene. I would love for this option to still be available to the narrator in the middle of the scene - say a player decides to make their part in the scene about examining someone's file.

The narrator would not have known this ahead of time and thus would not have created an asset card for it, and as the game stands now (as I understand it), cannot do so while still in the middle of a scene. Giving the narrator…

Thanks for the feedback! Narrators can actually already play additional cards for pick-up at any time, not just at the start of the scene. It’s supported for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Thanks!

  18. Provide options for email frequency

I would love to be able to set how often I receive email updates. Especially for comments.

  19. Allow players to generate a bank of character templates

I've been locked out of two games in mid-character generation in the past 24 hours, which has been very frustrating since I became invested in the character ideas and then didn't have any way (other than the e-mailed info) to save those for potential use, with tweaking, for a future story. I even had cool images for my cards, only to lose everything except the text. Would it be possible for there to be a place to generate and store character ideas?

In Gamma, if your application to join a game is denied, your character isn’t deleted automatically but rather is moved to a special page. From there, you can delete it or keep it.

  20. Editing Options

During play, I have noticed that if the group as a whole decides to change or retroactively disallow a certain move or story segment, the inability to edit what you have written makes it impossible to change. I understand why that is a necessary evil, so that you cannot invalidate another player's move retroactively, but perhaps doing something along the lines of: allowing editing but showing edited text in addition to the original text (so as to not invalidate the other player's moves), or making complete edits only allowable by making all of the players/narrator vote on the edit before…

In Gamma, narrators can edit their contributions to a scene at any time, and players can edit their own moves if the narrator allows it. Additionally, everyone is free to edit their contributions to past, completed scenes. Hopefully this will help with the issue you describe.
