Agreed! I've been thinking something along these lines, too - like claiming the next post. I would suggest some kind of time limit on the pause/claim, though, so that a player can't pause for eternity.

I thought, perhaps, a "Reply" function might help this out. Maybe you can't play cards in a reply, but... at least, you can respond to a character who has addressed one of your own characters.

Though, perhaps, a PM system would do the trick. I would've been able to message the narrator and let him know that I had a completed character that I wanted to contribute.

I think the game would benefit from having a system that has no limit on the challenge points for a scene and no card limit on any player for the scene - thus, introducing a refresh function mid-scene, if need be.

This way, your remaining characters could perform a refresh in the scene as one move. Now, they've got their cards back to play, and the story can continue on with the reliable players who are dedicated to the game.

There could still be a customizable limit on how many cards a player can use before another player has to take over (to stop one player from playing an infinite amount of cards before the next player's turn). Perhaps, you can only play up to 3 cards until someone else plays?

Could it be almost like a "Reply" to another player's action?

    Hi Stephen,

I think Mischa meant the limit on cards played per scene, not per turn.

The scenes / challenges themselves sometimes require more length than only 3 challenge points per character. Perhaps, an option to refresh automatically mid-scene or as its own special move... would help remedy this, as well.

This way challenges in one scene could be unlimited, if the scene warrants.

As for turn limits... I think those are quite necessary. Playing all of your Strength / Weakness cards in one shot would make no sense.

Having card limits for a scene was a great jumping off point, but I do agree that it is far too restrictive. A card lead is a fantastic alternative! I really like it!

As for challenges, I would like to have no limits on this - I have some ideas I want to explore with making dilemmas for players, which requires multiple challenges that can't all be met.

For refresh, perhaps, give the creator of the story the option to add to their game parameters whether their story has "Refresh as a move", "Refresh between scenes", or "Automatic Refresh".

I'd also like the ability to hand out Strength and Weakness cards to players.

What I think is that we need to allow the creator/narrator of the game the flexibility to decide these details in the game parameters. So that you can have neutral cards (Assets, etc.) stack with Positive cards in your story, and I can choose for my story that these neutral cards swing towards an Uncertain result (which is what I would prefer).
