  1. Allow the Narrator to Upload a Photo Pool

This would allow the Narrator to furnish a consistent pool of photos for the players to draw their cards from. For example, as it is, you could end up with a mix of black-and-white and color pictures, photo realistic portraits and manga-style characters, photos of actors and sketches the players did themselves. It's a visual nightmare.

If the narrator could furnish a pool of consistent photos, it would allow for a very visually cohesive game. And it would speed up character creation too!

  2. make goal cards private.

This may already be the case (and I can just see them because I'm narrating), but I just gave my players contradictory goals to experiment with texture in the narrative. Is that visible to the players? Or do they just know they've been given a personal goal?

Currently, any card in play is visible to everyone, and each characters’ cards are visible to everyone. The only cards that are “private” are the ones that the narrator holds in their hand.

We’ve toyed with various ideas for making some information “secret”. This is a good addition that we will put into the mix, thank you.

  3. Add more info about the setting at character creation

When I was invited to the game, it wasn't very clear what was going on in the setting that was chosen. I guess I am supposed to help invent the setting by adding facts and establishing things in my character's bio, but it wasn't clear that this is how it's supposed to work (I just know that's generally how it goes in story games). I think it would be better if there were either more info about the chosen setting or if there were more guidance about how story games work for first time players and the extent of their…

Thank you for the feedback, that’s really helpful perspective. Agree we need to do more here. There’s (usually) more context available as part of the fictional world you’re playing in, but we’re perhaps not showing enough of it to the new player. You also make a good point about the player’s agency over their character and the setting itself; we are looking for ways to make that clearer to newcomers!

  4. allow for randomized cards

The narrator should be able to designate a set of cards as a themed "mini-deck" that he can attach to a scene. He can then give players "draws" from the deck over the course of the scene as a response to play. These decks could be random treasures, outcomes, unexpected events, or even just a random number generator. Whatever the narrator needs.

  5. Rich Text Editor

I'm kind of surprised Storium doesn't have this yet, and it would really speed up posting without having to go back and edit formatting mistakes and such several times. Is this something we can look forward to, including the ability to put coloured text and images into our posts?

  7. Customize Card Orientation

Allow narrators to choose between landscape and portrait orientation for card art. This greatly widely art options as well as solving the problem of how/where to align the card type overlay on images.

  8. make it so non members can have more charcters

This would make it so more beginner stories would sprout up. We need those. Lots more people would join your site and write stories. You've got a good website that has a chance to be great.

  9. Maybe having a search boxes

We should have a search box, so we can find what we want to roleplay in. Some people (like me) want to find some anime roleplaying, or fandom roleplaying. And we have no idea on how to find it.

  10. an FAQ for common questions & problems

i run into minor issues from time to time that have nothing to do with how to play storium, which is the only thing it talks about in the Help section. i think it would be extremely helpful if there were an easily accessible FAQ

  11. give notification-triggering @user mentions visually distinct formatting

The ability to @ someone in game comments is great, but this feature is not consistent across the site.

Would it be possible to make it so that an @ mention which has triggered a notification is somehow visibly distinct from regular text? Changing the font weight or linking to the user's Storium profile (if they're a valid user) would be sufficient I think.

  12. distinguish between inline/block pre/code text

The current markdown processes (A) lines which begin with four spaces, (B) text enclosed by ticks (text), and (C) text enclosed by three ticks (text) as <pre>.

Could we instead use for inline (potentially not fenced/without a background, just plaintext/monospace) and`` for preformatted blocks? Otherwise, it seems we have three unique bits of syntax that do exactly the same thing.

  13. Give Narrators the option to put moves in the right order

Naturally players respond on a challenge when they have time. Usually this results in moves that are out of order, interrupting conversations and the like. For the player this isn't much of an issue but I see it turning away readers. Maybe you could give narrators the option to move the moves around the page so that they can happen in the chronological order

  14. Allow option to name Chapters and Scenes via actual word boxes.

Pretty much what it says, allow the option to name chapters and scenes outside of the main post. People currently do this, so implementing it officially would not be a terrible idea.

  15. not show completed games in the 'games you are participating in' box.

IMO, if you are participating in games but don't want them on your home screen, they are likely to be slow, on hiatus, continuing but your involvement is complete (say it's in its last scene and you know your character is done). If a game is complete, you are no longer 'participating' in it and those games clutter up the list. It's easy enough to find your completed games from your profile, so please take them out.

  16. Create a space for NPC character sheets

I realize that, in general, the idea is for player characters to move the action forward. However, some stories need NPC's with detailed histories and developed personalities, which a narrator doesn't necessarily want adopted out. In one of the games I created, the NPC's were characters I had developed and knew extensively. I needed them for the story, but I did not want other people playing them and changing them. But aside from their challenge cards, there was no real way to make them usable by anyone but me.

  19. Link similar stories to the one a player is viewing

As the amount of finished Storium games grows and grows, it might be fun for readers of a Storium session to get suggested links attached to that story - stories that are similar in genre, fandom, type, etc. It could be a great way to feature stories that a reader might not discover otherwise, all depending on the type of content they're interested in reading.

  20. Show a narrotor guide when someone starts making a custom character.

    Hi there!

As a user of Storium and a narrator I thought something was lacking whem I created a new character for a game. Or wanted people to adhere to a set of guidelines when they are creating one for a game I am narrating.

So I suggest that when someone clicks “custom character” that the narrator can include a small text (say 500 words to keep it concise) that once more informs players of some guidelines that one would like to see in a character. And during the process of making a character have this piece of text but…
