  2. Seeing the last move in a new scene

It would be very welcomed to have the previous last action of a scene available to read through when beginning a new scene/chapter.

  3. Show full comments in Notifications list on home page

The Notifications list on the homepage is wonderful, but I still need to click through into each active game to read the comments.

While long passage like new moves, chapters etc. are best experienced within a game, it would be nice to be able to read all comments in one place. If crazy-long comments would break things, showing the first x characters of a comment would be suitable for most comments, and would keep me from needing to click among active games.

  4. Pop out comments?

It might be helpful to do something to make the comments sidebar a bit more readable... it's very narrow atm. Perhaps it could pop out in a separate frame?

  5. Narrator should be able to change post order

If people are posting at the same time, posts can seem out of sequence. Narrator should be able to swap post order if a move no longer makes sense with the sequence of events.

  6. Create a world setting for Zombie Apocalypse style stories

The idea is fairly simple. The zombie survival genre has taken our culture by storm. Creating a world setting for zombie survival type stories would provide a pre made setting for those wanting to scratch that itch. Basing it off an already existing zombie mythos or just creating your own would be great. Ideas would include:

Origin of the outbreak (technological, supernatural, biological, etc.)

Types of zombies that might exist (Reference Left4Dead)

Different timelines and the state of the world (Early outbreak, mid level society collapse, last of the living, etc.)

Other living obstacles that the players might face (Organized…

  7. Comment screen

I like that you can make comments. I would like the option though to edit what has been typed just like in the game. I misspelled a word and I couldn't change it.

  8. A few ideas going forward re Natures and Strengths/Weaknesses

    1) It would be interesting if Natures could also be set to act as strengths/weaknesses in themselves- for example, a Pit Fiend in a demon story might by its Nature have the Strength "Unholy Strength" AND the weakness "Inhumanly Ugly"

    2) In addition to, or instead of the above: Allow Natures to be used as hidden gates versus certain Obstacles or Characters. The above fiend could, through some sort of scripting, find its Nature a weakness against an Exalted Battle Nun for example. Such a gate would be bidden in the NPC card in a format something like

    <weak> Nature==Pit…

  9. Allow writers to replace their characters

Not just kill them off, but replace the name, cards, goals with narrator consent. This can be used for transforming characters, killing them off or writing them out.

  10. Add a field to the Player move interface for 'location' or 'context'

When playing in a game where there is a larger number of players (> 5), it can be necessary to split the group in the story, or the players organically group themselves into sub-groups.

Following the action of these sub-groups can be difficult. A tactic emerged in our game to mark the location of the action with bracketed text, to mark one's location or the context of one's move.

One means of providing this is to create an optional field that would automatically format to italicized, bracketed text, if location or context information was included there.

  11. Provide link to next scene/chapter

When one scene has ended, and another begun, it would be nice if there was an obvious link at the end of the first scene to the second one. A place-holder could be placed there before the next scene has started, just to signal where the link will be in the future.

  12. Allow to reverse order of Comments (newest first)

It would be nice to reverse the order of the Comments stream such that the newest comment will show on top.

Alternatively, auto-scroll to the newest unread comment.

Right now, we have to use the scroll bar to find the newest comments.

  13. Testing mode for Narrators and Players.

Click testing mode to try out a function without affecting the story. Tests could be highlighted ( background color or etc.) so that they are ignored by narrator and players until deleted. Especially useful for beginners to try out character generation or card mechanics. A new narrator could try out making a character in their game before issuing invitations or see how playing a card would work.

  14. Add a bit of help on how narrators create characters

Not sure how to set default strength/weakness/subplot cards for the various "nature" cards. I think this is possible as I've seen it in other games...

  15. Do NOT allow playing multiple place cards per scene

I just want to put my support out there for the existing system of linking a single PLACE to a single SCENE.

I know there are a few posts with about 20 or so up-votes between them (that I have seen) asking for this feature.

By most dictionary definitions, a scene in literature IS constrained to a single place

    scene
    noun
    - a subdivision of an act of a play in which the time is continuous and the setting fixed and which does not usually involve a change of characters.
    - the place where an incident in real life or…

  16. Understudy

A narrator should have the option of substituting an understudy for a character. This would be useful when (a) someone is AWOL, or (b) someone is being uncooperative, rude, uncivil, etc.

  17. Add narrative style points to the basic guide.

The mechanics of the game play are very well laid out and guide you through how to face challenges step-by-step, but there's no guidance on what you should write. I'd like to see the basic game guide include notes on:
    - how much detail to include.
    - incorporating other characters into your action and resolution.
    - taking the story forward when you have control of the narrative.
    - dealing with weak or uncertain outcomes.
    - deferring to other players within your narrative.

I think some more detailed guidance on what you should be writing are as necessary as the current…

  18. Ammo/ammunition cards or subcards.

If I give my player a gun, I want him/her to be able to use it more than once. But if I give that player three gun cards, he/she can pass them to other players. It would be nice to have cards that work as ammunition for other cards.

  19. Change the email subject lines

I read these emails on my smartphone and the story being the last thing is kind of a pain, since they get cut off.

I'd say a format more like:

    [Storium] STORY_NAME: blurb-about-what happened.

    For example:
    [Storium] Moose Habitat: New comments.
[Storium] Moose Habitat: So and So moved.
[Storium] Moose Habitat: Narrator ended the scene.

At the very least remove some unnecessary words in "ended the current scene in".. that alone is so long it runs off and I can't see which game I'm playing has ended a scene.

Minor inconvenience, but worth looking into.

  20. More editing controls

Would be nice to bold, italic, color change, font change, text size change my narrative. I run a web design company, oldest in NY, we have been providing DHTML controls for many years, allowing users to edit pages from a CMS with these type of changes...

Storium supports Markdown syntax. If you click on “formatting help” (just under the input box when writing scenes or moves) you’ll see a description of some of the common syntax that is supported.
