Cooperative
FlexibleThese type of things would allow Narrators to get an idea if they would want that player in their game or not. People may have to take time off or may have to quit, but at least if they communicate with the Narrator about it, things can be managed better.

An error occurred while saving the comment Lillith Avalon commentedAnd I will add, I only want to see my active games on the menu, not suspended. Or perhaps the suspended ones could be under a submenu indicating the status.
Alphabetical order of stories would be better for me but an indicator if there has been activity on it since I read the page last would be super duper cool. Still, just the menu would be a huge win.

Thanks for the feedback!
Just wanted to make sure you saw that you can write and save scene drafts? That allows you to write the next scene before publishing it.
If you’re talking about writing scenes that are further into the story’s future — say, beyond the next scene — that seems difficult since the narrator doesn’t yet know what the players are going to do next, right?
Thanks for any additional thoughts on this…
Lillith Avalon supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Lillith Avalon commentedI just voted and posted on a similar idea that should probably be combined with this one to show true vote rate. https://storium.uservoice.com/forums/211322-general/suggestions/5755414-give-a-draft-area-for-the-next-scene
The ability to create an outline of next and other scenes and even chapters in draft including place, obstacle and other cards would be fantastic. I'm not proposing to railroad player characters in any way, but if they are on a journey or mission, the Narrator probably has some kind of pre-concieved set of stops and story plot items that they are going to hit along the way. I am having to manage this all offline right now.
I don't see any way to draft a new scene before ending the current one as mentioned in the admin response. Glad this one is under review!

Thanks very much for that thoughtful feedback. This is one of the key mechanisms we are evaluating in this playtest, so it’s great to hear what you think about it.
The idea behind this mechanism is the “winner gets to narrate” model encourages people to play more cards sooner and make moves faster, so as to win control more often. Essentially, it’s a carrot to motivate people to “play harder”. And since playing your cards gets you closer to getting new cards, it is always a good thing to do it, even when you don’t end up winning the challenge.
Now, whether or not this is all actually true — and effective — remains to be seen. We’re keeping a close eye on it and will keep your feedback in mind for sure! Stay tuned…

1) The Narrator to designate which of multiple players who contributed cards to a challenge gets to write the outcome for that challenge.
2) For the Players who contributed to the outcome to vote on which player writes the outcome. (Narrator should probably get a vote too.)This way players who are writing well, who contributed significantly to the challenge, and who are truested to be considerate of other players contributions and point of view get to write the outcome.

An error occurred while saving the comment Lillith Avalon commentedIn fact the ability to create an outline of next and other scenes and even chapters in draft including place, obstacle and other cards would be fantastic. An error occurred while saving the comment Lillith Avalon commentedThis is actually very interesting... I'm narrating my first story with 5 new but great players and in just three scenes we have already significantly wrestled and wrangled over a number of issues around 'players writing for other characters', control versus flow, moves without cards, calling dibs on challenges, and more.
I'm finding that I have some pretty strong style preferences and I am drafting a Narrator's manifesto about how my Storium games should be played. I am going to publish my manifesto along with my player profile so that in any future games, players know what they are getting into with me and whether it suits their preferred style of play or not. (I can do this with a link of course, but it would be cool to incorporate it in Storium as part of my profile.)
We are also developing a set of 'house-rules' for the story that I'd like to be able to institutionalize under the Storium umbrella as well. Likely some of my house rules will be carried forward into any and all stories I narrate while others might apply to the current story but not others. Again, if Players could read my 'house-rules' for a game before applying, it might make my stories more (or less) appealling to them to participate in depending on their own preferences.
Other Narrators are going to have different approaches. The flexibility Storium allows around this stuff is one of my favorite things. I don't think that the game should provide more guidance. I think it should allow experienced Narrators to publish 'manifestos' and then recommend that new Narrators read them to learn about different possible styles they could choose.
The game could however provide a list of leading questions around common issues for the new Narrator to consider their own answers to.

An error occurred while saving the comment Lillith Avalon commentedI would like to be able to set up a puzzle that requires the right asset cards to be played on a challenge - the asset cards are held by various players. So restricting which cards can be played on a challenge would be very helpful, particularly because once a move is closed by a prior move, they can't change what cards they played on a challenge. A great addition, would be to allow asset cards played on a challenge to be changed on move revisions even after another move is played so they can make multiple tries at solving the puzzle.

We will soon be adding the ability for the narrator to explicitly specify which characters are in a given scene. Would that help a bit?
Meanwhile, you can visually segment the action in a scene by using a horizontal rule (“
-” in our layout syntax). Note also that the system does not require that players make a move in every scene. So you can ask someone to “sit this one out” and the scene will be able to progress just fine. Hopefully these techniques can get you un-stuck for the time being?Regarding simultaneous scenes, we’ve received this suggestion from a couple of other users, too, and so we are thinking hard about how we could add it to Storium without making things difficult to use and understand. It’s high on our list so please stay tuned.
Thanks for the feedback!
An error occurred while saving the comment Lillith Avalon commentedIdeally I could invite particular characters to a 'side-scene', say Chapter 1, Scene 1b that has its own entirely independent place & challenges, and then run multiple side scene's concurrently if I wish to. The side-scene should also be able to be kept temporarily or permanently private from the other players at the Narrator's discretion. If they weren't there, they wouldn't know what was going on after all.

Any updates on this? Without this I can't see using Storium anymore at all. Too painful to pull the writing out for other purposes.
