  1. Make game info and other characters more visible during creation

I see that another comment was posted about this and it was indicated that this was now smoother...I disagree. There's still no way to view the game summary and other characters when creating a character without flipping back and forth between views. Is there a way to have it all on the creation page, possibly in an abbreviated form that pops out with more detail if needed? It'd really speed up creation.

  2. Give Narrators more control over game functions and player decks

Narrators need the tools to enforce rules and take corrective action when mistakes or bugs occur, as well as the ability to create simple programs or scripts that restrict players or provide enhanced interactivity, preferably represented by visual queues that keep it all as simple as possible.

    This should include:

-adding or removing cards at will from a player's deck
-unrestricted posting of images and the ability to resize them, or a thumbnail with larger version embedded in a link
    -narrator only spell/grammar check ability
-interactive components, such as dialogue trees, coin flips, branching storylines
    -dice added as a supplement…

  3. Group/sort stories by genre

It is easy to see how when there are hundreds or thousands of games going on people may want to look for a certain type of story or setting. Allowing that as a filter (despite the pleas of being pigeon holed) will help those who don't vampires in their peanut butter.

  4. Show character's names next to their avatar pictures at top of page

Trying to remember what the character looked like so I can click to see their bio because I can't just click on the avatar in their last post...have to click them all til I find the right one.

  5. display details about the cast via mouseover as well as click

When viewing a story, I want to potentially include another player in the narrative, but I want to be true to that character. It would be great if the "Cast" avatars would show their details on mouseover as well as click, and that when click on a name of a character in those details that the character page opens in a new tab, instead of blowing away the page I was in, since I was probably in the middle of writing my next step.

  6. allow the "tooltip" details of a character to always be viewable whenever that avatar appears.

Right now if you click on an avatar in the Cast view, you see some tooltip style details. However say you have a long chapter and you just want to check out the details of who spoke before you. Right now you have to scroll all the way back to the top of the page. Instead, it should be the case that wherever the avatar of a character appears, clicking that avatar should show the "tooltip"

  7. Game Rules & Additions

I would like to see narrators with more options. For instance being able to add a maturity rating to restrict youth from joining and a way to determine how much God Modding will be allowed if any. I've seen the idea for a custom rules section to be brought back from the alpha site, that would be great.

    • Maturity Rating- In case we have a younger audience. If it is rated "Mature" perhaps Storium automatically blocks their ability to join the game.

    • Modding: I'd like to be able to see if the narrator plans to Mode my PC in a…

  8. Allow editing of unapproved characters

I left a word out of my character description and can't fix it! Can we just go update the description or something? Or do we have to wait for approval? A typo or error is an eyesore to me.

  9. Make it easier to go back and edit characters during creation

I tried to go back to change my character type in a game, and cancelled the character, and that meant i wasn't in the game anymore! I just wanted to change character classes.

  10. include librarians in your Storium for Schools efforts.

In particular, school librarians and public librarians, since each specialty will have different insights that may be useful to that project. (I'm a different kind of librarian.)

  11. Revision History

When someone changes a character or edits a move it would be nice to be able to see at least the last revision of that item. Getting notifications that someone changed something is nice but it's difficult to keep track of what it was prior to the edit.

  12. talking stick/speaker's staff

You have probably already gotten this suggestion, but just in case you haven't, or haven't had it presented in this manner...

Aboriginal tribes, especially the original natives of the northwest coast of North America, used an excellent early form of "Robert's Rules" to control the order of conversation. From Wikipedia:

"In a tribal council circle, a talking stick is passed around from member to member allowing only the person holding the stick to speak. This enables all those present at a council meeting to be heard, especially those who may be shy; consensus can force the stick to move along…

  13. Favorite Games/Players

It would be nice to have the favorites listed by games and then by player rather than listing all the moves that everyone has played. It will be easier to find.

    Thanks!

  14. Limit Scene Participants

Allow the narrator to set which players can reply in a particular scene. Some scenes don't require all players to be there and it would be good to have a way to limit replies to specific players and avoid wayward posts from the ones who shouldn't be there. Scenes can still be viewable to all players; the ability to post isn't.

  15. Change goals to personal Challenges

I've found, so far, that it often doesn't make sense to play Goal cards on Challenges. Instead, I think Goals should work more like personal Challenges - that is, you can play strengths, weaknesses, assets, and subplots on them.

  16. Embedded widgets or HTML

It would be nice if urls entered into comments, or even txts. Embedding YouTube urls to playable video might also be cool. I am thinking about references and background music/video. Possibly not for everyone, but some of It would be useful.

  17. Margin of success (or failure)

Not unlike other narrative driven games (as opposed to mechanic driven ones), it might be interesting to look into pacing the outcomes of challenges by the total "value" of cards played (adding up all strong cards, and deducting all weak cards).

Then have the outcome be based on the amount of strong/weak points.
Good, better, best--for strong outcomes. Bad, worse, worst--for weak outcomes.

This idea came to me after playing a six-point challenge. I did the last move, and by that point we were into a weak outcome with three weak and two neutral cards played. Narrative-wise, there was no…

  18. Reading View For Stories

I wish there was a way for me to read stories without all the distractions of the game cards, character avatars, commentary, etc. on the page. I think it would be very beneficial to have a better way to read a story in its entirety than the way in which the game is structured to be played. The play style works great for playing...but not as well for reading. Reading is best when it is immersive and distraction free. The current setup on the page does not support this well.

I can give you an example of how a Reading…

  19. Give forums their own notification list.

One notification list to rule them all is really not ideal. Please give forums their own notification list so that the tiny space we have to get an overview of our games at a glance is not flooded if we want to keep up with forum threads as well.

  20. Notification Readablility

The current notification sidebar is very short and list format gets quickly clogged up by streams of comment notifications. If you put how much activity has passed since you last saw a story on the games thumbnail itself it would improve readability and show you how much activity has passed on the games themselves. Allowing players to keep track of the games they are a part of more easily as notifications that fall off the edge of the sidebar on the homepage never reach me. See attached image for an example.
