  1. Reminders to Player to actually click on cards!

I find that players often miss the fact that cards have text and images, just seeing the titles in turn-mode and forgetting to click them for more information.

  2. Game Ratings, Both ESRB and Experince Levels.

Game Ratings To not only Label if a game has mature content or not, but also to help label it's genre as well as the play level of the characters. For example: People who type less then a Paragraph vs People who type full out pages.

  3. Per move images / Illustrations

Allow the user to select a mood icon or image (or upload one) to accompany their post with other users able to view the whole image in an overlay if they desire. For the more artistic players this would allow stories to be illustrated.

  4. Mark posts as "read", show posts which are "new"

Currently the user must scroll to the bottom of a long page to see new additions to the story. By adding a few fields to an indexing table, say:

    userprogress
    user
    id | gameid | sceneid | markedread | lastviewed

You could create some useful features, like highlighting entries posted since the last time the user logged in, and hiding posts older than the last the user marked as read. Also of course, adding the ability for the user to mark specific posts or the entire scene as "read" (the latter would of course simply…

  5. Reconsider the labels 'strong' and 'weak' for scene outcomes in favour of 'upbeat' vs 'downbeat'

The outcome we currently get are not really strong or weak in themselves. They are derived from strengths or derived from weakness, yes, but that does not make them strong or weak.

The problem with calling an outcome a 'weak outcome' is that it sounds like a qualitative judgement of the narrative. If we say, for example, that a film has a weak resolution, that's a criticism. We mean that the resolution is wishy-washy, poorly handled or incomplete.

If 'weak outcomes' were retitled, players might be more keen to embrace them and the interesting narrative complications they offer. To that…

  6. Management of email preferences

It would be nice if there was a list of the things you provide email notifications for and let us choose (by way of check box) whether we wanted updates from them in real time, as part of a daily digest, or not at all.

I want real time notice if my players have tagged me in a comment, or if they've made a move, but I'm less concerned about comments or moves in games where I'm a player.

    An example list might include:
    +Moves in games I'm playing
    +Moves in games I'm narrating
    +Comments in games I'm playing
    +Comments…

  7. Allow readers to rate stories

Number of followers on a story is a somewhat useful barometer of what's good and what's not, but I'd also like to be able to tell people how much I enjoyed a particular story. A simple five-star system would probably suffice for this. Might also be cool to be able to "send" stories to other people who might enjoy them.

  8. give Narrators the power to edit the character's cards.

If a character picks up too many of a card that you intend to spread out, or if they pick up cards that they are not supposed to be able to because they're not 'in the scene' where the card is.

  9. User Endrosements

I'm envisioning a user tagging system similar to what LinkedIn has started using for skills. Basically, you can suggest various skill you have (and other's can as submit new ones for your approval) and then other users can Endorse you for those skills. The more endorsements, the more people agree with you.

The system could work being either open (users submitting skills) or closed (a pre-populated bank of skills to select from).

This could help other users recognize people with similar play styles as well as identifying "problem" players by their lack of endorsements.

  10. Waiting on others

Hey, I feel like it could be important to include some variable in the name of the characters whether or not they are interested in moving, but feel like they are waiting for someone else to move. You'd have to make the character icons follow you down the screen on the left hand side as a result, but I think that would be beneficial anyways (It is irritating to have to scroll back up, though I understand some games have far too many PCs to handle that option).

A "Waiting/Ready" option would allow people to know if others are just…

  11. Create a Climax or Major Obstacle Card

This special card would be available to Narrators once per 30 moves or so. It would allow the Narrator to give a critical Scene extra heft by allowing narrator to play an additional 3 points of character/obstacle. AND it would allow players to use up to 6 cards during the scene in which the Climax Card is played, but no more than 3 per move.

I think a tool like this would really be a blast for Narrators looking to kick up certain scenes a notch or two and really ramp up the tension and pacing.

    Given that it's a…

  12. Preview the posts we make to the forums

Right now when we're playing a game, we have the option to preview what we're posting, rather than publishing it immediately. This lets us look at it, make sure we didn't mess up italics, paragraphs, etc.

Can you please add the same functionality to the forums? Since we can't edit our posts (except for a brief window when creating a new thread), it'd be nice to be able to get them right the first time.

  15. don't automatically accept characters submitted by players who were sent invitations

Just because I want my friend to play my game, doesn't mean their initial character concept will be perfect for it. I realize you have the option to ask for revisions AFTER it's been automatically accepted, but I don't see any reason why invitees' submissions should be treated any differently from those submitted through open invitations. Particularly since people are now using the forums to advertise their games and sending invites to anyone who shows interest, which is basically the same as an open invitation. Also, it makes you look awfully flaky if players keep seeing that you've accepted their…

  17. Individual Challenges

I've been in several stories where people either get split up, or they have have choices they are given to make, alone.

If the Narrator could create a challenge, and have an option of who is allowed to answer it, I think that would help spice things up, rather than present a challenge and only asking certain people to take it (provided the players are honorable enough to).

  18. Include an option for Narrators to link directly to their games in the Looking for Players forum

When reading a Narrator's post about a game, I think it'd be neat and convenient if, at the bottom of the post, they had the option to include a link to their game's sign-up page - maybe even a link that looks like the ones you are already using on the Looking for Players page where you're browsing the games (the game's individual graphic with the name of the game and the Apply to Join button - plus I think it would be aesthetically cool as well).

  19. Notification Readablility

The current notification sidebar is very short and list format gets quickly clogged up by streams of comment notifications. If you put how much activity has passed since you last saw a story on the games thumbnail itself it would improve readability and show you how much activity has passed on the games themselves. Allowing players to keep track of the games they are a part of more easily as notifications that fall off the edge of the sidebar on the homepage never reach me. See attached image for an example.
