allow narrators to invite guests as observers without making story public
It would be great, if narrators could invite guests as passive observers to a story, without making the story public (i.e. invitation by email or private link). I have a few people who are curious about Storium and I would love to be able to give them access to a story, so that they can passively wathc.

secret / flippable cards
if you had secret / flippable cards, you could solidify any secrets that your character is holding at the start of the game, with that information easily available and accessible to you and the narrator throughout the game, but secret to the other players until you reveal or flip that card. i'm thinking mainly dual natures or dual goals/subplots but it could work for assets too.
it would go a long way towards solving the problem of narrator's notes in character submissions going missing once a game has started, as I like to browse my cards as a quick way…

Personal Character Library for Players
While we get an email with a character copy when a Narrator closes a game, if you quit a game, or if you're removed, you lose your character for good.
And that is particularly annoying\sad especially on characters with complex and custom cards. I would like to know if it would be possible to:
a) Allow players to keep copies of all of their characters in their account, no matter what the status of the story (active, inactive, etc).
b) Have the possibility to "reapply" a character, by submitting it to another story. So, b) would be possible by adding…

Allow bulk creation of cards.
There should be some way to create a large number of cards at once. Either by uploading a file (maybe a CSV sheet) or by, instead of card by card in the way it is now, creating a list of names and contents. This would massively help with user created worlds.

Please give us an off-topic forum category
Please give us one forum category where we can just chat with each other, say hi, get to know each other, share interests, etc, without having to be slotted into the narrow categories.

Create a flashback system.
Allow the narrator to suspend the current card state and instead give characters simply a wild strength and wild weakness card. Subplots or items can be given out by the narrator at the start of the scene. At the end of the scene, all cards in the flashback are removed and the card state is restored to what it was before the flashback.
This would allow for more non-linear storytelling and variation.

Save an entire "character sheet"
To port into other games, or to allow another player to own that same character; even to move ownership in ongoing games from one player to another, that way they don't go stale if they're really good. Just an idea!

Image uploads?
Some friends and I are playing a fantasy/medieval game in Storium and loving every minute of it! However, given the complex nature of our game, sometimes it takes a significant amount of text just to portray a simple idea or location.
The age old axiom "A picture is worth a thousand words," comes to mind here. I was wondering if you could implement a feature that allowed users to insert images into the "MOVE" text.
For example, if I was describing a mythological beast, it would be enormously helpful to have a drawing of it uploaded. Or if geography was…

Usability Fixes
There are a few really simple things that I'd like to see done that would help usability on the pages a TON.
1) Make the cast-characters div fixed to the side like the comments so I don't have to scroll to the top every time I want to change characters, view a character, or interact with a character at all.
2) Place links at the top and the bottom of the page that will take me to either the top of the page or the most recent move at the bottom of the page.
3) Every time a character's name…

Have a "games played with you" section on profile
When I'm looking at the games on a player's profile, it's often because I know I've played with them before but I can't recall in what game(s). Having a list of what games you've played together with them, including suspended games and games they've retired from, would cut down on search time immensely.

Show a narrotor guide when someone starts making a custom character.
Hi there!
As a user of Storium and a narrator I thought something was lacking whem I created a new character for a game. Or wanted people to adhere to a set of guidelines when they are creating one for a game I am narrating.
So I suggest that when someone clicks “custom character” that the narrator can include a small text (say 500 words to keep it concise) that once more informs players of some guidelines that one would like to see in a character. And during the process of making a character have this piece of text but…

Give Narrators the option to put moves in the right order
Naturally players respond on a challenge when they have time. Usually this results in moves that are out of order, interrupting conversations and the like. For the player this isn't much of an issue but I see it turning away readers. Maybe you could give narrators the option to move the moves around the page so that they can happen in the chronological order

Customize Card Orientation
Allow narrators to choose between landscape and portrait orientation for card art. This greatly widely art options as well as solving the problem of how/where to align the card type overlay on images.

Non-permanent rejections
I was unaware when I was rejecting characters for my limited-space game would mean that players who had prior applied but been denied would mean that they could never reapply. This seems extreme. Sometimes games just get a ton of applications and only have space for a handful, but spots open back up later on and people might want to reapply, but can't. Please provide an option like "not right now" or something so that players aren't banned from ever reapplying.

Allow people to browse and share cards from other games
Along with the privacy controls some others have suggested, I think it would be super cool if you would enable a searchable catalog of cards across all genres.
Like if I need an "Arrogant" card, I could browse all of the cards storytellers have permitted to be "re-used" and choose the one I like best.
12 votesAgreed! In the future any narrator will be able to create a world out of their game and share it with anyone on Storium.

Allow editing of the "poke" message
The "poke" feature is handy, and the email that goes out is serviceable, but sometimes I don't feel that "holding up the action" is the way I want to phrase my notification. Any chance the poke function could provide an editable text box?

Track number of cards spent in a scene
After spending my third card in a scene, I don't remember seeing a notification that I was "spent." Having this notification, and a counter of cards left to play per character (maybe near the Challenges summary at the top of a scene) would be helpful.

The Narrator should be able to remove cards from player's inventory.
In our game, a character broke his weapon, so I gave him a "Broken Bit of Blade".
Later on he managed to fix it... but there doesn't seem to be any way for either of us to get rid of the broken bit.
12 votesAdminStephen Hood (Co-founder, Storium) respondedIf the player clicks on “Browse your cards” they can actually “rewrite” their asset card to turn it into something else — anything that makes sense in the story! In this way, the player gets to keep their cards — and the narrative power that they provide — but can adjust them to what makes sense in the story right now. Rewriting an Asset costs one card, which prevents the feature from being abused. And as narrator, you can push back if a player rewrites an Asset in a way that seems inappropriate.

Allow players to play Assets, Goals and Subplots without a Challenge
I think it would be fun and mechanically useful to let a character play a set number of 'Uncertain' cards as part of their move, as a way of indicating to the Narrator that they'd like to invest mechanically in bringing that element of their character out at that time. Plus, it would let people use interesting Assets they've accumulated proactively.
Basically, I'm a plot-map kind of narrator but I'd like to give people the opportunity to influence the story outside of challenge resolution-- but I don't want them to do it casually and without limits. Making them spend an…

Disabling E-mail notifications
There definitely needs to be a way to disable e-mail notifications for games. It spams peoples' inboxes
12 votesNote that you can disable email notifications from your Profile page. You can also choose to receive only a daily digest. In the future we plan to let you customize these settings on a per-game basis.
