Dual Strength/Weakness Cards
Certain traits could be detrimental in some cases, but helpful in others. For example, say you want your character to have "Brutal Honesty" where they always tell the truth no matter how harsh it is. In some challenges, that will be hurtful as you insult characters, but other times, the person may appreciate your honesty.
Not exactly sure how that would work mechanically. Maybe it is a "neutral" card that the narrator decides whether its a Strength or Weakness when played. Or, maybe it flip-flops (is a Strength when first played and then a weakness the next time).
Either way,…

Allow Full Screen Text Window
Many other online/browser based text editors have an option to go full screen. The tiny text box can be resized, but it is still too small for longer length posts. For quick blurbs (what I think of the twitter effect) the current box works well. However, for longer posts, it is very difficult to work within. I find (and have had others say the same) that I write in a separate text editor and copy & paste to the Storium text box. It would be great to have a toggle to make it go full screen while writing and then…

Holistic vs "As of Now" Character Edits
Under the current system, when a player edits their character, that change is reflected by all posts made by that player, however sometimes a player wants to have their character evolve through the story and have their description/avatar reflect that. For example, one character in a story I'm a player in switched sides for a little while, switching to an alternate persona, and edited their profile to match, however, this change was reflected by the entirety of the story, all the way back to the first scene. When I first logged in after the change, I was confused and didn't…
9 votesFYI we are looking at ways to do this. One that we particularly like is to link “as of now” edits to playing your Nature card, and thus making it a big event in your character’s evolution. For example, when Luke’s Nature card changes from “Farmboy” to “Rebel pilot”, and his photo and description get updated to match.

Include an option for Narrators to link directly to their games in the Looking for Players forum
When reading a Narrator's post about a game, I think it'd be neat and convenient if, at the bottom of the post, they had the option to include a link to their game's sign-up page - maybe even a link that looks like the ones you are already using on the Looking for Players page where you're browsing the games (the game's individual graphic with the name of the game and the Apply to Join button - plus I think it would be aesthetically cool as well).

Ability to add optional mechanics
I'd like it if Narrators could add additional rulesets to the game. Storium works great as a simple tool and I think that should remain the default option for most games - but what if the Narrator could add more complex rule sets on top of that?
Imagine the option to customize how Strength and Weakness cards work (set the default # of cards to a different amount, allow characters to have one of several different kinds instead of a single stack of one, etc). Or if you could allow Assets to sometimes produce Strong outcomes on Challenges, or if…

It would be great if there was some kind of search function within a story
...to be able to search for the occurrence of a certain word/s in a story, for instance, "golden harp". This would allow a player to be able to read all the times this has appeared in the story and refresh ones memory of how and when it was mentioned. At the moment trying to keep up continuity without having to re-read the whole pervious story is quite hard.

Alter the Number of Strengths and Weaknesses by World
The world itself should specify the number of strength cards and the number of weaknesses each player gets. This would help with genre. A thriller game should probably have an even number of strengths and weaknesses. But an action game romp should probably be tilted slightly to strengths — Aid the power fantasy. And a comedy? Should be much more weakness tilted: Things going wrong are far funnier than things going right.

Create a seprate flag for avoiding disliked players.
I've seldom found a bad game to participate in on Storium, but there have been a few rare occasions that I struggled to tolerate. However one time was enough, and I'd like to be able to flag certain players so that I could avoid any future frustrations.

Consistent use of names
This relates to and generalises "Change notifications to display character name". There is very poor consistency in use of names in the game between character, user name and real name. I suggest never using real names, and always using one of "character name (@username)" or "@username (character name)" - always with the "@".
For example of the problem, I got two notifications
Keevee (Sage Hendrix) made a move in “Survivor: Storium”
then
CoffeeNinjaB8 edited their move in “Survivor: Storium”
and these refer to the same player and character!Think I may have raised this before, possibly a year ago, but…

Stop using x/x/x time formatting for dates
The x/x/x thing is unhelpful if you don't know the formatting, as there's no real way to tell whether it means day/month/year or month/day/year.
I would rather it just say 12th September 2015 for example, rather than 09/12/15 and have that confuse everyone.

Sweetening the membership pot!
Why not give those who purchased a membership a monthly or even weekly stipend/currency, that they can freely distribute to any non-member, that would give any non-member who accumulated
enough of said points, to have a temporary membership minus the stipend a normal member would gain. Various reasons could be accrued as to why members would give said opportunity to non-members, perhaps they liked the game they ran or game
they played etc..9 votes -
Implement counters/tokens for keeping track of numbers of things
Card mechanics are useful inside challenges but are not always useful for keeping track of certain details that are important to the story but don't directly drive the plot.
Cards can only be played as part of a challenge and there are only so many challenge points available for each scene.
My idea is to implement Counters (or Tokens) which are not played directly but are used to help Narrators and Players keep track of something, such as 'shots fired', items in an inventory, 'health points', 'mana points', or anything else there might be one or more of.
Each player…

Showing favorited games
If a favorited game has been completed or hasn't had and activity for some time, it can be difficult to find it, and the favorited games list only goes back so far. Could you please list it, like your own games on your homepage, or something similar that makes it easier to find these games?

Create an "Adults Only" Looking for Players forum section
Recently, I've noticed a few "erotica" games or things of that nature being listed in the Looking for Players forum. Based on the fact that we have underage players on Storium, I was thinking maybe it would be best to have a separate "adults only" Looking for Players forum for these and perhaps for other games that would end up with the 18+ marking?

make it so non members can have more charcters
This would make it so more beginner stories would sprout up. We need those. Lots more people would join your site and write stories. You've got a good website that has a chance to be great.

Allow hosts and narrators to share files with players.
I like to share pictures and word docs as well as sound files with my players to add to the experience. I think it makes it more engaging for them. The files don’t need to stay on the server and could be time limited but available for download and attached to a specific scene. For example allow me to create a “clues” card that has several documents attached to it and by making a move in that card they can download the attachments.

Track player cards scene by scene
I was reading through one of the completed games (Smile for the Camera). When I clicked on the character images to see what class they were and such, instead of seeing what set of cards they had at the start of that scene, I instead saw the set of cards available for the character at the end of the game. This not only made it hard to see the build of the character at the time of the scene, but also contained spoilers for the story (eg, one of the assets listed it as a murder weapon for a character)

Formatting or Paragraph breaks on card outcomes
IDK about other people but I can write pretty detailed info in my Strong and Weak card outcome sections, usually because part will be IC and another OOC instructions.
I can deal with no basic formatting (though it makes me sad i can't put things in bold or italics), but having no paragraph breaks really makes stuff difficult to read. If paragraph breaks could at least be registered and have some spacing between them, that would be a solid Awesome.

allow for randomized cards
The narrator should be able to designate a set of cards as a themed "mini-deck" that he can attach to a scene. He can then give players "draws" from the deck over the course of the scene as a response to play. These decks could be random treasures, outcomes, unexpected events, or even just a random number generator. Whatever the narrator needs.

Making neutral cards more interesting
The more I poke at the system, the more it seems to me that the neutral cards - Goals, Subplots and Assets - really aren't that interesting in play. Because they can't drive a scene towards a strong or weak outcome, the only reason to play them is to avoid pushing a challenge away from where it is - e.g. if the balance is currently strong and you don't want to waste a Strength as the last card you play.
(Or if you want to avoid pushing a weak-but-player-written outcome into an uncertain-and-Narrator-written outcome. I kind of feel like weak…
